A commercial invoice is a necessary document for export and import clearance. It is sometimes used for foreign exchange. It is the document used by customs officials in the buyer's country to assess import duties and taxes.
Not only that, but it is a document provided by the shipper that contains information about the shipment, such as a description of the goods, their value, and shipper information.
A commercial invoice requires that you fill in the correct information; otherwise, there may be delays in shipment.
Make sure you fill in the invoice correctly and that it has the following information:
- The buyer's full name, address, and contact details the buyer
- Full name, address, and contact details of the seller
- Number and date of issue of the commercial invoice
- Number and date of issue of the purchase order, pro forma invoice, or sales contract
- Price, payment method, currency, discounts, and additional charges
- Quantity, gross or net weight of goods, number/weight/type of packages
- Harmonized System (HS) tariff code and a basic description of the goods
- including delivery and payment
- The country of origin of the goods
- Means of transport or route
- Actual value of the goods
